BioOne Marketing Communications Associate Position Opening


BioOne is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1999 to aggregate scientific information in digital formats for dissemination via the Internet, principally to an institutional market. BioOne provides an information resource of high scientific value at a reasonable price. Through the efforts and credibility of its collaborators and their commitment to best practices, features and benefits, BioOne has attracted a large and diverse international customer base. Academic libraries, the primary target market, want effective responses to the serials crisis in scientific, technical and medical publishing, where access to journals has been marked by rising costs, fewer options, and tightening control by commercial publishers. BioOne is a response for libraries that also enables non-commercial publishers to remain viable and independent in a highly competitive marketplace, enhancing member services and dissemination of research.


 The Marketing Communications Associate is an intermediate staff level position reporting to the Director of Sales and Marketing. This key position is responsible for the planning and execution of marketing communication activities that support both institutional sales of the flagship product BioOne Complete and the advancement of related programs that benefit the BioOne community. This role requires the ability to clearly convey concepts to a global community of stakeholders and to effectively collaborate across the organization on a broad portfolio of projects. The Associate also participates in strategic development activities designed to foster the long-term success of BioOne.

Responsibilities and Duties

-Collaborate with the sales team to develop strategy and execute marketing campaigns designed to achieve sales objectives for BioOne Complete including lead generation, enhanced product engagement, and retention.

-Analyze campaigns to make informed recommendations for enhancing performance

-Create and distribute sales and marketing collateral including video, web pages, email, and print.

-Work with Director of Sales and Marketing to create and manage the marketing/communications


-Coordinate public relations outreach through press releases, email marketing, and listserv posts

-Seek input from the sales team on trends, needs, and feedback from users and librarians, as well as share results of research

-Support publisher relations and researcher-oriented programs with needed marketing activities and ideation. Includes webinars, annual Ambassador Award campaign, and dedicated BioDigest newsletter.

-Design, draft, and distribute corporate communications in collaboration with staff. Includes annual report, quarterly newsletter, blog posts, and creation of corporate collateral.

-Manage external vendors

-Develop schedules and maintain deadlines

-Create marketing presentations for stakeholders

-Coordinate BioOne’s participation in conferences, exhibits, and industry events

-Contribute to and implement strategic planning initiatives and other organizational directives as appropriate based on community feedback, industry knowledge, and other research and modeling activities

-Provide BioOne Board and Committee meeting materials as needed

Social Media

-Brainstorm, draft, and post all BioOne blog posts

-Manage search engine optimization activities

-Create and update pages on the BioOne corporate and BioOne Complete website

-Manage all BioOne social media marketing accounts and email automation tools

Brand Management

-Function as the steward for the BioOne brand

-Create consistent messaging to align with BioOne’s mission and organizational strategy

-Develop and execute creative sales tools, collateral, and promotions in support of the BioOne brand

Skills & Experience

-Ideally, three years of experience in the publishing industry

-BA required

-Demonstrated analytical, communication, and copywriting skills

-Proven ability to research and identify the needs of a target user community

-Graphic design experience for both paper and web, HTML and Adobe Creative Suite required

-Email marketing software experience

-Working familiarity with social media and search engine optimization

-Proven ability to work to budget

-Highly organized, strong attention to detail and time management skills

Position Details:

Ideal start date: Monday August 30, 2021

Salary range: $60,000 – $65,000 including generous benefits package

Remote work is possible, and some travel will be required to attend meetings
